How does it work?

What are dermatological lasers and how do they work?

Laser is the acronym for the phrase Light Amplification by the stimulated Emission of radiation, which means "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation". The basic principle behind the use of laser to destroy unwanted hair is the principle of selective photothermolysis, which consists of selective absorption of the laser beam by the melanin in the hair.

The first clinical element that is evaluated is hair color.

By absorbing the laser beam from the melanin in the hair, we have a conversion of light energy into heat. When the temperature inside the hair follicle reaches 70 degrees, the hair regeneration centers are destroyed and a reduction in hair growth is achieved. Of all the hairs, only those in the anagen phase are biologically active. They contain a greater amount of melanin, therefore they absorb a greater amount of laser and can be destroyed - approximately 15% is destroyed per session. This explains why a certain number of sessions are required to complete the program. In 1997, the FDA approved the use of lasers in the fight against unwanted hair growth.

What should I do before and after each session?

BEFORE: Detailed and realistic information about the application is provided by our specialized consultants. We take a history. We pay attention to people taking photosensitive preparations or a history of vitiligo, psoriasis, atopic eczema, herpes and keloids and clearly in the first 4 months of pregnancy and postpartum. Hormonal testing is performed in women to exclude hormonal background. Clinical examination of the area to exclude the presence of active dermatological disease or dysplastic nevi.

AFTER: We apply topical cortisol cream and instructions are given to avoid hot baths, sun exposure for two days, and use sunscreen during periods of intense sunlight.

Excellent results in women with hormone-dependent areas such as: face, neck, chest, abdomen. Intense hair growth in these areas is observed in women with hormonal problems (polycystic ovaries, thyroid diseases, etc.).
